Bajan Jordan strokes career best

LONDON, England, CMC – Barbadian all-rounder Chris Jordan stroked a career-best half-century to rally Surrey against Essex in their County Championship game at Chelmsford here Wednesday. The 22-year-old lashed a patient 71 as the visitors, sent in to bat after losing the toss, recovered from a dodgy position of 148 for six to reach 315 all out on the opening day of the Division One contest. At the close, Essex were six without loss in the two overs available.

Windies U19 face Sri Lanka in opener

ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) - West Indies Under-19s will open their one-day quadrangular series against Sri Lanka when the tournament bowls off in India at month end. The series, which runs from September 27 to October 9, will also involve the hosts and Australia. All teams will play each other twice, with the two top teams meeting in the final on October 9 and the two bottom teams playing for the third spot.

Umpire abandons match over abuse

HAMILTON Bermuda, CMC – A Jamaica-born umpire abandoned a Premier Division match on Sunday after being verbally abused by players, the Royal Gazette newspaper said. 

Lester Harnett, a long-time Bermuda resident, pulled up stumps in the match between Devonshire and Willow Cuts at the Devonshire Recreation Club ground shortly after colleague Bobby Smith, who had been subjected to abuse from players and spectators alike, walked off the field.

President Hunte congratulates Windies Women

St John’s, Antigua– President of the West Indies Cricket Board Dr. Julian Hunte congratulated the West Indies Women’s Team for their series triumph over Pakistan.

Windies won the four match series 3-1 with Anisa Mohammed being named Player of the Series after picking up 14 wickets, inclusive of two five wicket hauls.

“This impressive victory signals to all that you continue on your path towards the very pinnacle of world cricket,” Dr. Hunte remarked in a message to Captain Merissa Aguilleira.
