Bowlers rule as Sagicor HPC roll over UAE

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Kevin McClean and Veerasammy Permaul shared six wickets, as the Sagicor High Performance Centre beat the United Arab Emirates by 105 runs in the first 50 overs-a-side match of the CaribAsian Tournament on Tuesday.

McClean bowled with pace to make early inroads with three wickets for 19 runs, left-arm spinner Permaul continued to show his development with three for 29, while Jason Holder chipped in with two for 20 to ensure the HPC successfully defended a target 217.

Greaves stars but Windies U19 lose

Visakhapatnam, India, CMC – A solid all-round performance from Justin Greaves failed to spark the West Indies Under-19s, and Sri Lanka Under-19s clinched a tense, two-wicket victory in the four-nation Under-19 Series on Tuesday.

Playing at the Reddy Stadium, Greaves stroked a valuable 33 and Kaveem Hodge hit the top score of 50, as the Windies were dismissed for 146 in 47.1 overs in their opening match of the series, a warm-up for next year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup in Australia.

Mathurin barely misses delivering on prediction

London, England – West Indies captain Darren Sammy revealed that rookie spinner Garey Mathurin told him he would take “four wickets for 10 runs” before England started their innings in Sunday’s second and final T20 International at the Kia Oval. Mathurin, a left-arm spinner debuting two days after celebrating his 28th birthday, almost fulfilled the promise and ended with the remarkable figures of three wickets for nine runs off four overs. All three victims were cleaned bowled. The Windies shot out England for 88 after making 113 for five, to win by 25 runs and level the two-match series.

T&T lose to Mumbai in heartbreaking finish

BENGALURU, India, Sep 26, CMC – Ravi Rampaul bowled impressively to take three wickets for 17 runs from four overs, inspiring a stirring Trinidad & Tobago fight-back, but Mumbai Indians out-lasted the Caribbean Twenty20 champions, winning by one wicket in a heart-stopping, low-scoring Champions League T20 match on Monday. The West Indies fast bowler earned the Man-of-the-Match award, as T&T obstinately defended a victory target of 99 in their opening group match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
