Ramdin eager to take over T&T

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad CMC – Denesh Ramdin said he was looking forward to leading reigning champions Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship next month.

The West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman was elevated to the position, after long-standing captain Daren Ganga resigned last month.

Ramdin said he was confident about taking over the leadership of the side and it would involve a lot of work and effort.

Bajans beat Canada in CT20 warm-up

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Barbados defied a solid batting performance from Canada to clinch a five-run victory in their five-match Caribbean T20 warm-up series.

Chasing 140 for victory, the Canadians looked on course for victory following a top score of 42 from Jimmy Hansra, Zubin Surkari’s 26 and a knock of 23 from Raza Rehman in the final match at North Stars in the northern parish of St. Lucy.

Cozier gets MCC honour

LONDON, CMC – In his typically witty style, Tony Cozier had just one wish after he was made an Honorary Life Member of the Marylebone Cricket Club.

The noted West Indies correspondent was given the award on Tuesday for his huge contribution to the game for over half a century.

“Knowing the illustrious company I now join, I am truly flattered by the honour cricket’s foremost club has bestowed on me,” he said in an MCC media release. 

Bishoo, Munroe win Guyana awards

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – West Indies pair of leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and fast bowler Subrina Munroe have been named Guyana’s Cricketers-of-the-Year. The announcement came at the Guyana Cricket Board’s annual awards ceremony on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Bishoo was named the Men’s Player-of-the-Year, after he made an impact, having made his international debut for West Indies during the World Cup staged earlier this year in Asia.

Injured "Polly" to miss Big Bash

ADELAIDE, Australia CMC/IANS – Kieron Pollard has been ruled out of the Big Bash Twenty20 League with a tear in his right hamstring. It was a major blow for the much-hyped Australian T20 domestic tournament, as it has lost a big draw card.

Scans revealed that the Trinidad & Tobago and West Indies all-rounder has a grade two tear.

He suffered the injury while fielding in a warm-up game on Thursday, Australian media reported.
