Rain ruins Round 1 of Under 17 Tourney

SCARBOROUGH, TOBAGO - Persistent rainfall in Tobago prevented any play in Round 1 of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Under 17 Tournament that was scheduled to begin on Sunday.

Early morning rain on the island delayed the start of play at all three venues and did enough damage to force the abandonment of play when it did stop falling.

Windies set NZ 178 to win

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, CMC – West Indies won the toss and batted and reached 177 for five off their 20 overs in the second and final Digicel Twenty20 International against New Zealand at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium on Sunday.

Chris Gayle again led the way with 53 off 39 balls with four mighty sixes. Dwayne Bravo came in at the end and blasted 35 not out off just 11 balls to set New Zealand a challenging target.

Simmons in for Pollard, WI bat

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, CMC – West Indies won the toss and opted to bat in the second and final Digicel Twenty20 International against New Zealand at the Central Broward Regional Park on Sunday.

They have rested Kieron Pollard as a precautionary move after the right-hander injured his shoulder in Saturday’s opening match. He has been replaced by Lendl Simmons.

Gayle: Let's do it again on Sunday!

FORT LAUNDERDALE, Florida, CMC – Opener Chris Gayle has praised the West Indies batting following their 56-run win over New Zealand in the first Digicel T20 International on Saturday but said it was important the Caribbean side kept up the pressure in Sunday’s second match.

The left-handed Gayle was at the centre of the victory, paving the way for the Windies’ total of 209 for two with a measured but flamboyant innings of 85 not out. The score was the West Indies highest score ever in the shortest format and signaled a spectacular start to cricket in America.

Gayle, Pollard set WI up for victory

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – Chris Gayle stroked his second half-century in three innings since his return, as West Indies fashioned a 56-run victory over New Zealand in the opening Twenty20 International of the historic two-match series on Saturday here.
