Gayle moves up batting ranks

Kingston, Jamaica, CMC – Big-hitting opener Chris Gayle has vaulted 12 spots into the top of five of the ICC Twenty20 International batting rankings, less than two weeks after returning to the West Indies colours.

In the latest rankings released on Monday, the 32-year-old Gayle was fourth behind new number one, England’s Eoin Morgan. The movement for Gayle comes after he plundered half-centuries in both Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand in Florida last weekend.

Russell, Best back for ODIs

Fort Lauderdale, Florida CMC – West Indies selectors have called up fast bowler Tino Best and all-rounder Andre Russell to the 13-man squad for the first two One-Day Internationals against New Zealand to be played this week in Jamaica.

Both players participated in the recent ODI series in England but were overlooked for the Twenty20 International doubleheader in Florida. Leg-spinner Samuel Badree and fast bowler Fidel Edwards, who featured in those two matches this weekend, are both out of the squad.

Narine leaves NZ spellbound

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Sunil Narine shone brighter than the Sunday sun in south Florida as he produced a magical bowling spell to pilot West Indies to a huge win in the second Digicel T20 International.

The off-spinner routed New Zealand with four wickets in four overs as Windies won the match by 62 runs and the series 2-0 as the home side enjoyed a successful weekend at the Central Broward Regional Park.
