Mumbai, India – Kumar Sangakkara hit his first ICC Cricket World Cup century as his side enjoyed a comfortable 113-run win over New Zealand on Friday at the historic Wankhede Stadium.

On a memorable day for the Sri Lanka captain, Sangakkara hit an excellent 111 from 128 balls, putting on 144 runs with Mahela Jayawardena for the third wicket. During his innings he also passed 9 000 ODI runs.

Stirling gives Irish grand finale

Kolkata, India – Opener Paul Stirling made a superb 101 off 72 balls as Ireland ended their ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 campaign on a high with an easy six-wicket win over the Netherlands on Friday.

The Dutch had posted a competitive 306 from their 50 overs on the back chiefly of 106 from Ryan ten Doeschate, who hit his second century of the tournament. He added 121 for the fourth wicket with skipper Peter Borren who cracked a career-best 84 on a good batting surface at the historic Eden Gardens.

Chennai, India – West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell gave his all with both bat and ball on Thursday, but the Windies were unable to topple England in their Group B ICC Cricket Word Cup match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.

Playing in just his second One Day International, the 22-year-old took four wickets with his right-arm seam bowling as England were bowled out for 243. He then returned to hit 49 off 46 balls to take the Windies close to victory and the two points required to reach the quarter-finals.

Hildreth hundred turns tides for Lions

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – James Hildreth led an England Lions recovery with his second hundred of the season against Windward Islands in the WICB Regional first-class championship on Thursday.

The Lions captain scored an even 100 to give his side’s first innings total of 280 for eight at the close on the opening day of the sixth round match at Windsor Park.

Russell stars but Windies lose by 18

Chennai, India – Andre Russell turned in a superb allround performance but it was not enough to provide West Indies with a victory over England in their ICC Cricket World Cup match on Thursday.

Russell took four wickets as the Windies bowled out England for 243, and then made 49 off 46 balls in his side’s total of 225 as England won by 18 runs in a thriller.
