Windies win toss and bat

Gros Islet, St Lucia – Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to bat first in the first ever International Digicel Twenty20 match between West Indies and Pakistan.

Leg spinner Devendra Bishoo, batsman Danza Hyatt, spinner Ashley Nurse and all rounders Andre Russell and Christopher Barnwell are all on debut in a new look Windies team.

Windies left Kemar Roach and Krishmar Santokie on the bench.

Sir Garry remembers Gerry Alexander

Bridgetown, Barbados – West Indies cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers has spoken about what a “wonderful man” Gerry Alexander was and what a thrill it was to play alongside him in the West Indies cricket team.

Alexander, the former West Indies wicket-keeper, captain and team manager, died in his native Jamaica last weekend. He was 82.

Waqar wants to see youngsters grow

Gros Islet, Pakistan, CMC – Pakistan coach Waqar Younis says he is pleased with the strides his side has made and wants his young unit to continue the development against West Indies.

Thursday will signal the start of the Digicel Series 2011 when the two teams meet for the first time in a T20 International. First ball at Beausejour Stadioum is 2 pm (1 pm Jamaica Time).

'Wi all in' for Digicel Series says Sammy

Gros Islet, St Lucia– Not only are the West Indies and Pakistan cricketers vigorously preparing for the action in the Digicel Series but the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricketers are also getting into high gear for their debut.

At the lunch interval of the First Digicel One Day International at the Beausejour Cricket Grounds the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricketers will provide an International Interval Display.

Under-19s looking to clinch series

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The West Indies Under-19s will be looking for a series-clinching win when they take on Australia Under-19s in the third and final match on Thursday.

First ball at the Global Cricket Academy is 2 pm (6 am Eastern Caribbean Time/5 am Jamaica Time).

Australia won the opening match but the Windies rebounded with a superb 102-run in the second encounter on Tuesday to set up the decider.
