Windies lose to SL in warm-up

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka gave a very strong account of itself when it took on West Indies, in a warm-up game at the Nondescripts Cricket Club ground in in the capital city on Thursday.

The hosts ran away winners by nine wickets after a superb all-round show in the first official warm-up of the International Cricket Council’s World T20 tournament.

Gayle backs Windies to win big

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, CMC – Talismanic opener Chris Gayle has backed West Indies to reach the final of the World Twenty20 Championship. The big-hitting left-hander, the hottest commodity in World T20 cricket, said he believed the Caribbean side could improve on their showing at the 2009 edition of the tournament in England when they reached the final four.

“When you look at our team you can say we are well balanced. In these tournaments the best we achieved was the semi-finals in England back in 2009,” the Jamaican told reporters on Wednesday.

Colombo, Sri Lanka - West Indies star Chris Gayle says Olympic sprint great Usain Bolt wouldn’t look out of place if he was signed by the Melbourne Stars to play in this year’s Australian Big Bash League T20 tournament.

WICB announces Admiral as kit supplier

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board today announced that Admiral Sportswear will be the official kit supplier of West Indies cricket until August 2013. Admiral is a previous West Indies team kit supplier.

“We’re delighted to have Admiral back on board with West Indies cricket as the official kit supplier for the West Indies Men’s and Women’s teams, the Windies A and Windies Under 19 teams,” WICB Commercial Manager, Nelecia Yeates said.

Smiling Windies touch down in SL

Colombo, Sri Lanka - West Indies captain Darren Sammy is not getting carried away about his side's prospects in the ICC World Twenty20. With a number of leading T20 players at his disposal, the Windies are being touted by many as one of the leading contenders to take the crown.

Speaking at his team's arrival press conference in Colombo, Sammy was all smiles and said he believes there are a number of worthy teams at the tournament who could win the title come October 7.
