Sammy: Rally around the West Indies

Bridgetown, Barbados – Darren Sammy urged fans to continue to “rally around the West Indies”, as his side flew out to Sri Lanka on Sunday for this month’s World Twenty20 Tournament.

Gibson: Windies attack has depth

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Head coach Ottis Gibson believes West Indies boasts a bowling attack that will thrive in whatever conditions the team meets during the ICC World Twenty20 Championship starting later this month in Sri Lanka.

Conditions in the Asian subcontinent usually favour spin but Gibson said the 15-man squad comprised a well balanced bowling unit that would be prepared to face the challenges of the surfaces during the September 18 to October 7 tournament.

Gayle stars with bat, ball under lights

CAVE HILL, Barbados, CMC – The outstanding Chris Gayle took centre stage with an exciting half-century in a smooth all-rounder performance as West Indies beat a UWI Select XI by 77 runs, to sweep their warm-up doubleheader at the 3Ws Oval on Thursday night.

Gayle cracked 62 from 42 balls as West Indies cruised to 175 for four off 20 overs after opting to bat first. Johnson Charles hammered 46 off 39 balls while exciting all-rounder Andre Russell chipped in with a cameo 33 in the dying stages.

Sammy sets up Windies warm-up win

CAVE HILL, Barbados – West Indies captain Darren Sammy hit 56 not out and shared an unbroken, half-century, sixth-wicket stand with Marlon Samuels to lead his side to a 44-run victory over the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre in a Twenty20 practice match on Thursday.

Pollard's focus on Cup, not favourites

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - Another West Indies cricketer has shrugged off the favourite tag being heaped on the Caribbean side preparing for the ICC T 20 in Sir Lanka later this month. Big hitting all-rounder Kieron Pollard says being labeled as favourites could only put the West Indies players under a certain amount of pressure going into the tournament.

Pollard, who is one of the leading T20 players on the planet, said it’s only performance on the field of play that counts.
