Windies top 4 to the fore

Mumbai, India -- West Indies’ top four batsmen the most of ideal conditions at Wankhede Stadium and put their team on course for a big first innings total at the close of the first day in the third and final Test against India.

Openers Kraigg Brathwaite (68) and Adrian Barath (62) gave the visitors an ideal start with a 137-run stand after captain Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to bat first on an easy-paced pitch in the hope of avoiding a 3-0 series whitewash.

Mumbai, India -- West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and chose to bat first in the third and final Test match against India at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

The visitors, trailing 2-0 in the three-match series, were forced to make two changes to their team from the second Test due to fitness issues.

Veteran left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul failed to recover from his calf injury while speedster Kemar Roach was suffering from a stomach bug.

Mumbai, India, IANS/CMC – West Indies appear poised to field an all-pace attack as they seek to stave off a series whitewash when the third and final Test against India starts here Tuesday.

The Wankhede Stadium pitch is expected to be seamer friendly, a fact that prompted West Indies captain Darren Sammy to hint at leaving out rookie leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo from the final XI.

Laxman wary of ‘dangerous' Windies

Mumbai, India, IANS/CMC – Veteran middle-order batsman VVS Laxman says India are fired up to make a clean sweep of the series against West Indies but said the hosts remained wary of a dangerous Caribbean side that played better than results had reflected.

The third and final Test bowls off at the Wankhede Stadium here Tuesday, with India taking a 2-0 series lead into the contest.

Mumbai, India -- West will be going all out to avoid a series whitewash when they face India in the third and final Test match on Tuesday. First ball in the match at the famous Wankhede Stadium is 9.30 am (11 pm Monday Eastern Caribbean Time/10 pm Jamaica Time).

The Windies lost the opening match at Ferozeshah Kotla in Delhi by five wickets after taking a sizeable first innings and went under by an innings and 15 runs in the second match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata despite making 463 after being asked to follow-on.
