Stuart Williams to coach Leewards

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Stuart Williams will take over the job of head coach of the Leeward Islands for the West Indies Cricket Board’s Caribbean Twenty20 Championship.

The former Leeward Islands captain and West Indies opener takes over from Leon Rodney for the tournament to be staged from January 9 to 22 in Antigua and Barbados.

Big Swing hit by bad weather

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Inclement weather has forced organisers to call off a four-team Twenty20 Festival here at the end of December.

Dubbed the Big Swing, it was scheduled to be held at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, but according to a release from Chief Operations Manager of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Suruj Ragoonath, persistent rain over the past few weeks had led to unfavourable conditions.

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad -- The leader of the West Indies attack is a man of Indian origin. He doesn’t have a pronounced jump in his delivery stride, and prefers to run through the crease - more Waqar Younis than Curtly Ambrose.

His default setting isn't the fierce bumper sent down with the intention of knocking the batsman over. His disposition is mild-mannered, and he doesn’t readily convey menace to the opponent.

Kirk Edwards bats for captain Sammy

Bridgetown, Barbados -- Newly-appointed Barbados captain Kirk Edwards has described his West Indies skipper Darren Sammy as a "fighting cricketer who gives his all".

Edwards, one of the West Indies batting successes on the recent Test tours to Bangladesh and India where the side had mixed fortunes, said Sammy needed as much support as possible.

WICB, BCA tribute to Nigel Harrison

Bridgetown, Barbados – The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) have paid tribute to Nigel Harrison, the outstanding first-class umpire who died recently in Barbados. He was 77.

Harrison was a very good club cricket for the famous Spartan Cricket Club, where he played alongside former West Indies players Wes Hall, David Holford, Cammie Smith, Tony Howard and Peter Lashley.
