Windies A lose openers early
North Sound, Antigua – Veerasammy Permaul did not have a bright start to his captaincy of the West Indies A Team. First he lost the toss in the opening Digicel 'Test' then he lost his two opening batsmen cheaply to Bangladesh A fast bowler Robiul Islam.
West Indies were reduced to 11 for 2 Kyle Corbin dismissed for a duck in the 2nd over and Rajendra Chandrika for 9 in the 4th over to leave the home side 11 for 2 on a unthreatening Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground pitch.
West Indies opted for a pace based attacked, including pacers Shannon Gabriel and Nelon Pascal and fast bowling all rounders Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite.
Trinidadian off spinner Sunil Narine, a late inclusion to the squad has been handed the 12th man duties for the four day encounter.
After an hour’s play West Indies moved to 75 for 2 with the Jamaican duo of Danza Hyatt on 42 and Nkrumah Bonner on 21. The pair, particularly Hyatt has looked to be positive and Hyatt dispatched Robiul for three fours in one over to keep the West Indies A score moving along at pace.
The Bangladeshi Test spinning duo of Nasir Hossain and Mohammed Sohrawordi were immediate employed in tandem by skipper Jahirul Islam but Hyatt maintained his aggressive mode. He struck Hosain for a six and a four and Sohrawordi for a cracking straight driven boundary.
