Kingston, Jamaica - Gibbs Williams, director of sports at G.C. Foster College, has been appointed interim fitness trainer of the national cricket programme.

He takes over from regular trainer David Bernard Sr, who left the Caribbean last Friday along with the West Indies women's team for their tour of New Zealand.

Bernard Sr is also scheduled to travel with the regional side to Bangladesh for the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Championship next month.

"Gibbs has been appointed the interim trainer until Bernard returns," said Jamaica Cricket Association CEO Courtney Francis.

"He is not someone that is new to the job, as he has held a similar post when Jimmy Adams was technical director, and Gus Logie was coach.

"He has, therefore, been in and around the programme, and worked with Coach Junior Bennett before, and we thought that given his experience, he would be best for the job."

Williams, who also coaches G.C. Foster in national and parish competitions, is currently helping to prepare national four-day team ahead this month's start of the regional tournament.

He is also expected to assist in the running of the national women's and youth programmes.

The West Indies women's team is scheduled to return in early May or late April depending how far they progress in the World Twenty20.
