Guyana v Windwards on Super50 Opening Day

Georgetown, Guyana– Host Guyana will open their Regional Super50 campaign against the vastly improved and always feisty Windward Islands on October 19th.

The other opening day match will be joint defending champions Barbados going up against the Barbadian based Sagicor High Performance Centre Team which beat the West Indies in Dubai today.

Work to start to promote livelier West Indian pitches

Georgetown, Guyana– Bowlers are likely to be encouraged by news coming out of Guyana. Following the WICB commissioned Curators Workshop, curators from around the region have given a firm commitment to prepare pitches for regional and international cricket which will be more consistent and ‘livelier’.

The two day workshop was facilitated by ICC Pitch Consultant Andy Atkinson along with Chairman of the WICB Pitch and Field Committee Gregory Shillingford and WICB Director of Cricket Tony Howard and was held at the Guyana National Stadium.

Samuels feels good to be back bowling

Dubai, United Arab Emirates– West Indies allrounder Marlon Samuels has been given the go-ahead to bowl again in international cricket. The 30-year-old, who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off-spin, recently underwent tests on his bowling action in Perth, Australia. He passed the tests and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has granted permission resume bowling.

Samuels in presently in Dubai with the West Indies team on a one-week camp as they prepare for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. He was naturally very pleased with the good news.

WICB announces ODI & Test squads to Bangladesh

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announced the West Indies One Day International and Test squads for the tour to Bangladesh.

Denesh Ramdin has returned to both the ODI and Test squads while off spinner Shane Shillingford returns to the Test squad along with rookie opener Kraigg Brathwaite. Keiran Powell, the Nevisian left handed top order batsman has also been included in both squads as well.

Carlos Brathwaite, the Barbadian all rounder has received a call up to the West Indies ODI squad.

Charles expects Windwards to win Super50

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Xavier Gabriel was named the only uncapped regional One-day player in the Windward Islands’ 14-member squad for next month’s Regional Super50 in Guyana.

Chairman of the Windwards Selection Panel Julian Charles said they have decided to choose an experienced squad for this competition in the hope of going all the way and winning.

“We believe we have a strong enough squad to win the competition,” he told the CMC Sports Wire.
