KINGSTON, JAMAICA - Westmoreland strengthened their claim for the top spot in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Western Zone One Day Championship and a place in the national semi-final with a massive 225-run victory over Trelawny last weekend.

In their most impressive batting display of the season so far, Thompson's namesake, Jason Thompson, also fired more than a half-century (74) as the two pummelled the Trelawny bowlers to all parts of the Little London cricket ground to pile up 319 for 9 off just 38 overs after winning the toss and electing to take first strike.Jason Dawes was the pick of the Trelawny bowlers, taking 2-13 off four overs, and Julian Diaram supported with his 2 for 18. Nigel Bernard stroked 24 in Trelawny's innings, which folded with them on 94 from 24.1 overs as Westmoreland kept up the march towards the title.

Elsewhere, Hanover had a 26-run win over St James at Elgin Town. Hanover batted first and made 172 all out off 43 overs. In reply, St James were dismissed for 146 to give Hanover a 26-run win to bounce back from their loss to St James in the previous round.

Darrian Gordon smashed 36 for Hanover and was well supported by Jermaine Blackwood, who hit 21. Andrew Walker was the pick of the bowlers for Hanover with 3 for 25 off 9.3 overs and Christopher Watson 3 for 28 off 10 overs.

Former West Indies player Dwight Washington stroked a quick-fire 26 and Milton Hamilton 31 for St James, but they were never in with a serious chance of overtaking the Hanover total as wickets fell at regular intervals to slow down their reply.

Jermaine Blackwood took 3 for 21 off 10 overs for Hanover, who sits in second place in the standings, with Westmoreland out front with a perfect-win record.

Westmoreland will put their perfect record on the line against St James on Saturday at Green Pond in round five, while Trelawny hosts Hanover at the Trelawny Stadium.
