Georgetown, Guyana - Outstanding performances by Siddique Mohamed and Alex Collins guided Gunners to a 6 wicket victory over Devonshire Castle in the second semi final of the WD’s Hotel and Mall T\20 cricket competition in North Essequibo.
Mohamed grabbed 4 wickets for 19 runs off three overs to help restrict Devonshire Castle to 120-7, batting first after the game was reduced to 12 overs due to rain on Saturday at Anna Regina Community Centre ground on the Essequibo Coast.
Grayson Paul supported Mohamed with 2-22 off 2 overs as Anthony Persaud scored 21 with two fours and Basil Persaud 18 with one four and two sixes for Devonshire Castle.
Gunners had little trouble in overhauling the total, finishing on 121-4 in 10.3 overs in reply.
Alex Collins belted two fours and four sixes en route to a top score of 40 not out, while Navin Singh provided valuable support with 33 included two fours and three sixes. Alex Lawry chipped in with 26 which contained two fours and a similar number of sixes.
Gunners will take on Walton Hall in the final, which is set for Sunday at the said venue.
The wining team will take home a trophy and $100,000, while the runner up will receive $60,000; the man of the match in the final will also receive an award.
Meanwhile, Devonshire Castle rebounded in the afternoon fixture to beat Walton Hall in the Caricom Rice Mill T\20 semi final and will face Gunners in the final on Saturday at Anna Regina.
The victorious team will grab a trophy and $40,000, while the runner up will collect a trophy and $25,000; the man of the match will also be rewarded.
In an invited comment president of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee, Prince Holder said that the finals are expected to be keenly contested and is hoping that the weather will permit play.
