St George's, Grenada - Trinidad and Tobago’s cricket women, led by West Indies captain Merissa Aguilleira, will take on a strong Barbadian team in their opening match of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Women’s Regional Super50 Tournament today from 9.30 a.m. at Beausejour Ground in Grenada.
T&T will welcome back vice captain Anisa Mohammed, who returns to competition after an injury layoff, and will include experienced players such as all-rounders Stacy-Ann King and Kirbyina Alexander, and hard-hitting opener Amanda Samaroo.
Barbados have a very good team, including hard-hitting West Indies bat Deandra Dottin—who played for T&T last year—as well as Knight sisters Kyshona and Kycia, all-rounder Shaquana Quintyne and pacer Shakera Selman, all of West Indies pedigree.
A number of other West Indies players are in the tournament, including world number one Twenty20 bowler Shanel Daley and world top rated all-rounder Stafanie Taylor, both of Jamaica.
The other three Super50 matches scheduled for today will see Jamaica face St Lucia at La Sagesse, while Dominica play Guyana at Tanteen and Grenada take on St Vincent and the Grenadines at Progress Park. All matches bowl off at 9.30 a.m.
The tournament will comprise three rounds, followed by the semi-finals and final, which will be played at the Roy St John Recreational Ground in Tanteen on August 14.
The WICB Women’s Regional Twenty20 Tournament will then commence on August 16 and conclude with the final on August 22 at Grenada National Stadium.
Between the two formats the WICB will host a Player Development Seminar for all players participating in the tournament.
