WATCH LIVE: Regional 4-Day, Rd 7, Day 1
St John's, Antigua - Matches continued to move at a pace across the Caribbean during the second session of play on Day 1 of the final round of Regional 4-Day matches.
In Georgetown, Guyana fought back with four Trinidad & Tobago wickets including the key ones of Evin Lewis (64) and Darren Bravo (61). T&T scored 71 runs in the sessions. Davendra Bishoo picked up all four wickets, finishing the session with 4-38.
In St John's, things continued to move quickly as the Leeward Islands were bowled out for just 94 runs in their first innings. Ashley Nurse finished with 4-24 while Jonathan Carter and Sulieman Benn both had two wickets each. Barbados went to tea solidly placed at 78/0, trailing by 24 runs.
At Cave Hill, Carlton Baugh's unbeaten half-century has led a minor Jamaican revival, with the visitors getting to the final break on 129/7. Baugh is unbeaten on 58. Ryan Austin picked up another wicket after Lunch to add to his one in the first session while Jomel Warrican picked up his first.
It was an action packed morning on Day 1 of Round 7 of the Regional 4-Day at three venues across the Caribbean.
Wickets tumbled in Barbados and Antigua but T&T were solidly placed after the first session of play in Guyana.
At the Guyana National Stadium, T&T recovered well after losing Lendl Simmons (12) with 35 runs on the board. Opener Evin Lewis is unbeaten on 58, having scored his fourth First Class half-century. Darren Bravo is with him on 42. T&T went to Lunch on 115/1.
It was a much different picture at the Three Ws Oval where Jamaica were rattled by the College Students, left reeling at 56/5 at Lunch. Marlon Samuels on his return made just 12, the joint highest score so far with Nkrumah Bonner. Raymon Reifer (3-16) led the CCC destruction while Kevin McClean and Ryan Austin had one wicket each.
Even more wickets tumbled at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground where the Leewards Islands were left shell-shocked at 74/7 against Barbados. Devon Thomas has so far top-scored for the hosts with 30 while captain Kieran Powell made 16. No other batsman got into double figures. Ashley Nurse (3-13) was the chief destroyer for Barbados while Jonathan Carter has 2-8.
All eyes will turn to the Regional 4-Day this weekend as Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados battle against different oppositions for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President’s Trophy.
The top three teams entering the final round of matches – Trinidad & Tobago, Windward Islands and Barbados – have all secured a place in the last four.
At the Guyana National Stadium, leaders T&T will face Guyana with the only notable movement in their squad being Lendl Simmons replacing Kieron Pollard. For Guyana, Davendra Bishoo is back for the hosts.
At the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, second placed Barbados will be visiting the Leeward Islands and will be hoping that should T&T slip up, they would take the trophy.
In the third contest at Three Ws Oval, the last semi-final spot up for grabs can either go to Jamaica or the Combined Campuses & Colleges. Marlon Samuels is returning for Jamaica while Kevin McClean has replaced the injured Justin Greaves for CCC.
