Bridgetown, Barbados - Defending champions Sagicor UWI will face CGI Maple in today’s final of the Barbados Cricket Association’s Sagicor Twenty 20 Competition.
The Cave Hill lads booked their place in the final after defeating Republic Bank St. Catherine by 28 runs in the second semi-final on Friday night at Kensington Oval.
UWI batted first and made 133 off its 20 overs and then bowled out St. Catherine for 105 in 18.4 overs.
Man-of-the-Match Carlos Brathwaite was the go-to guy for UWI, taking four wickets for 19 runs as St. Catherine crashed from 89-4 in ten overs to being bowled out for 105.
Earlier in the evening, UWI opener Shacaya Thomas had topscored with 33 off 43 balls before he was caught by Darnell Greenidge off the bowling of Kenroy Williams.
Maple, the official LIME Elite Division Champions, defeated ICBL Empire on Thursday by eight runs via the Duckworth/Lewis method after rain had stopped play for over an hour.
Maple won the toss and made 137-5 off 20 overs after batting first. The rain came when Empire was 18 without loss in the fourth over and the umpires set a revised target of 66 off nine overs. Empire fell eight runs short of the target, ending on 57-8.
The final will bowl off tonight at Kensington Oval from 7 p.m. following the Barbados Cricket League Twenty20 Final between Vita Malt Whim and Sunset Vacation House Cyclone. That first final will start from 2 p.m.
