University Dynamites suffer first defeat in JPL T20

Kingston, Jamaica - Title-holders University Dynamites slumped to their first loss this season after a tight four-wicket defeat at the hands of Kingston Hurricanes in the third-round Jamaica Premier League Twenty20 (JPL T20) match at Kensington Park.

The Hurricanes, who were recording their first win of the campaign, reached 126-6 off the last ball of the innings after restricting the Dynamites to 125-4 off their allotted 20 overs.

Scores: University Dynamites 125-4 (20 overs); Kingston Hurricanes 126-6 (20 overs).

Earlier, opener Shacoya Thomas hit three fours and two sixes in his knock of 57 off 59 balls to lead the Dynamites.

Middle-order player Delbert Gayle and number three batsman Nkrumah Bonner added 27 and 25, respectively, while captain Jon-Ross Campbell contributed only 14.

Left-arm spinner Fabian Allen took 2-15 for the Hurricanes. In reply, opener Sadiki Bolt, the brother of Usain, top scored for Kingston Hurricanes with 37 runs off 35 balls.

Sidelined West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh made 27 and Tareque White tallied an aggressive 26.

Wrist-spinner Cassius Burton grabbed 3-21 off four overs for the Dynamites.

At the Ultimate Cricket ground in Discovery Bay, St Ann, the Mandeville Thunders beat Ocho Rios Chargers by seven wickets in the first of the double-header at the venue.

Scores: Ocho Rios Chargers 105-9 (20 overs); Mandeville Thunders 106-3 (18 overs).

In the afternoon clash, Spanish Town Titans also suffered their first defeat, going down by eight wickets to the MoBay Sixers.

Scores: Spanish Town Titans 111 (17.1 overs); MoBay Sixers 115-2 (11.5 overs).

The fourth round of matches will be played today with three further games.

At the Treasure Beach Sports Complex in St Elizabeth, the Mandeville Thunders challenge Kingston Hurricanes in the early fixture, while in the afternoon, MoBay Sixers meet University Dynamites.

In the lone encounter at the Ultimate venue at 1:30 pm, Ocho Rios Chargers welcome Spanish Town Titans.
