T&T schoolboys win international T20
LUCKNOW, INDIA - The PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Under-18 team defeated City Montessori School (CMS) by 53 runs to win the second edition of the International School Cricket Premier League Twenty20 competition in Lucknow, India, yesterday.
Joshua Ramdoo of Fatima College led the charge for the Trinidad and Tobago schoolboy team. His Man of the Match knock of 58 off 32 balls steered his team to an imposing 195 all out off their 20 overs, at the CMS Kanpur Road Stadium.
Also getting some runs were opening batsmen Jeremy Solozano, who scored a run-a-ball 23, and Shaquille McDavid, who made 24 off 15 balls.
In reply, the hosts were restricted to 142 for eight with Camillo Carimbocas taking three for 17 and Solozano picking up two for 27.
But it was Ramdoo's half-century that proved to be the deciding factor in the match.
T&T were 126 for seven when the Fatima batsman was joined by Hillview College leg-spinner Jesse Bootan (18 off ten balls). They put on a 48-run partnership to take the game away from CMS.
After 17 overs, T&T were 140 for seven, but they were not through yet. Ramdoo and Bootan took 24 runs off the 18th over with Bootan hitting the first ball for six.
Ramdoo followed up with a six and four off consecutive balls before ending the over with a glance to fine leg for another boundary.
Bootan started the 19th over with another big six over fine leg before being bowled the next ball. 174 for eight.
Justin Joseph was bowled off the first ball he faced to end the 19th over.
Ramdoo then shifted into overdrive, smashing a right-arm pacer for six and four off consecutive balls to bring up his half century.
He followed up with another six over long on before being run out off the last ball of the innings.
In reply, City Montessori School got off to a rocky start. Opener Haider was caught at first slip by Bootan off left-arm spinner Joseph in the fourth over.
Joseph, who was named Best Bowler of the tournament with 12 wickets, finished with figures of one for 22 from three overs.
The hosts fought back, with Vipul scoring 57 off 36 balls and Sooraj hitting 35 off 25 deliveries, but they could not finish the job.
Solozano, bowling some tidy medium pace, rattled the stumps of Vipul and had Sooraj caught behind by wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran, effectively ending the hosts' resistance.
Carimbocas followed up with two wickets in one over as T&T took full control.
