T&T 3-day trial match bowls off today

Trinidad & Tobago Newsday article.

Couva, Trinidad - Local cricketers and batsmen in particular will get another chance to impress the national selectors today when a three-day trial match bowls off between a Jason Mohammed XI and Yannick Ottley XI at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, at 10am.

The match is in preparation for the Regional Four-Day season which gets underway later this year.

Evin Lewis (124) and Jason Mohammed (72) are coming off good scores from last weekend’s trial match but none of the other batsmen made any notable scores which coach Kelvin Williams has acknowledged as being a cause for concern.

Veteran openers Adrian Barath (6 and 24) and Justin Guillen (6 and 0) both failed while Jeremy Solozano, Nicholas Sookdeosingh, Kjorn Ottley and Sherwin Ganga faltered with the bat as well.

It was a spinner’s paradise on the surface with Kavesh Kantasingh, Yannic Cariah, Imran Khan and others all wreaking havoc with the ball.

Merry Boys quickie Marlon Richards did well with five wickets in the match and will be keen to kick on from his debut season in 2013 to become a consistent performer for TT.

Ottley XI — Yannick Ottley (captain), Adrian Barath, Evin Lewis, Kjorn Ottley, Rayad Emrit, Petrock Nicholas, Imran Khan, Sherwin Ganga, Marlon Richards, Amit Jaggernauth, Tevin Robertson, Dane Teelucksingh, Nicholas Pooran, Kavesh Kantasingh, Navin Stewart; Kelvin Williams (coach).

Mohammed XI — Jason Mohammed (captain), Justin Guillen, Nicholas Sookdeosingh, Jeremy Solozano, Jonathan Augustus, Vikash Mohan, Steven Katwaroo, Yannic Cariah, Kevon Cooper, Ancil Bhagan, Vishal Naipaul, Derone Davis, Shannon Gabriel, Ricky Jaipaul, Kissoondath Magram; David Williams (coach).
