Bridgetown, Barbados - A visiting youth cricket team from Trinidad and Tobago recently wrapped up a memorable tour of Barbados.
The First Caribbean Bank Clarke Road United Youth Development Unit left the island on Friday after engaging in a week-long tour of the island.
During their stay in Barbados, the team played three matches against various local youth sides. The Trini lads defeated Northern Academy, lost to St. Catherine and drew with St. Leonard’s Boys’.
The tour was organised by the Hamilton Lashley Foundation with assistance from the Barbados Tourism Authority and Divi South Winds Resort.
At a reception for the team on Thursday night at Divi South Winds, Team Manager Ravindra Ramnanan noted that the tour was a very memorable experience for all the players.
Clarke Road United is based in Penal, in the southern-most part of Trinidad and Ramnanam said that many of the boys have never even seen Port-of-Spain or even the world renowned Queen’s Park Oval.
However, on their trip to Barbados they got to not only see Kensington Oval, but they had the opportunity to tour the grounds.
“All of our students have benefited from a holistic experience here.
The experience wasn’t only in terms of cricket and developing technical cricket ability, but they have also [had] an educational experience.
Some of them can tell you who is the Barbados Prime Minister, and who are legends of the game from Barbados,” said Ramnanan.
The manager added that the tour was quite competitive, which was good for the team. But what stood out to him was the Bajan hospitality and he states that they will definitely return in the near future.
Hamilton Lashley was also on hand for the reception and said that he hopes the relationship between Clarke Road and the Hamilton Lashley Foundation will be a lasting one.
Clarke Road United has produced some of the best young cricketers from Trinidad and Tobago in recent times.
Adrian Barath and Nicolas Pooran are just a few of the outstanding cricketers who have come up through the ranks at Clarke Road.
