St Lucia press towards title with eight-wicket triumph
CASTRIES, St Lucia – Hosts St Lucia executed a commanding eight-wicket win over defending champions Dominica here Thursday, to strengthen their chances of emerging as the new champions of the Windward Islands Under-15 Championship.
Playing the Dominicans for the second time in the double round robin series at the Beauchamp Playing Field, south of here, St Lucia won the toss and inserted their opponents, dismissing them for a meagre 68 off 33 overs.
Only Tahj Tavanier with a top score of 29, got into double figures as they surrendered to the double spin attack of Simeon Gerson who grabbed five wickets for three runs in six overs and captain Johnnel Eugene, who bagged three for eight from six overs.
St Lucia started their victory chase shakily and were at one stage two for the loss of two wickets. However, Eugene stroked 36 and Kimani Melius, 28, to combine in an unbroken third wicket stand off 69, to guide the St Lucians home.
The victory left the home team unbeaten after four of their six scheduled fixtures.
Friday is a rest day in the championship which continues on Saturday.
