St Lucia beat Dominica in Super Over
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – St Lucia defeated Dominica in a Super Over to win their first match in the Windward Islands Twenty20 tournament at the National Stadium on Saturday.
Both teams scored 116 runs at the end of 20 overs and St Lucia won the super over to register their first victory and Dominica’s third straight defeat.
St Lucia won the toss and decided to bat and were reeling at 40 for six at one stage of the match before Mervin Wells (21) Kurt Edwards (21) and in the end Gary Mathurin (17) rescued their side to 116.
There were two wickets each for Kevin James, Elton Mark and Mervin Matthew.
Dominica started their response with purpose but at 33 without loss in the fourth over, they then slid to 37 for three. Kavem Hodge and Junior Jervier featured in a 21-run fourth-wicket partnership to revive their hopes of a victory.
Hodge (27) and Raymond Casimir (23) struck an important 30-run partnership to level the scores at 116. Gary Mathurin was the best St Lucian bowler with three for 26.
However, St Lucia prevailed in the super over, reaching 14 for one in response to Dominica’s 10 for one.
