St Joseph’s Convent win ‘Francis Rivas’

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Two victories  earned St Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain the season-opening one-day round-robin tournament of the Francis Rivas Schoolgirls Windball Cricket League played at the Queen’s Park Oval on March 16.

The winners were later awarded the Don La Foucade Trophy.

The tournament was played among three north schoolgirls cricket teams, with St Joseph’s winning matches over Holy Name Convent and Diego Martin North Secondary to capture the title. 

Diego Martin trounced Holy Name by a huge margin to finish second.

 St Joseph’s won their opening match when defeating Diego Martin.

St Joseph’s posted 80 runs for the loss of four wickets in 10 overs. Sherlanna Ferrett top-scored with 30 runs, while Marie-Elise Maingot got 11. 

Makeeda Henry was Diego Martin’s best bowler  with  two wickets for 43 runs. In reply, Diego only managed 62 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

 St Joseph’s then defeated Port of Spain rivals Holy Name by 10 wickets. Holy Name were bowled out for just 24 runs in five overs. Replying, it took St Joseph’s just 3.2 overs to reach the winning                target. 

Ferrett was not out on 10 runs, while Kelsie Fraser made six not out.

The match between the losing teams saw Diego post a big score of 82 runs in their 10 overs, then restrict Holy Name to just 36.
