Port of Spain, Trinidad - Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 batsman Jeremy Solozano continued his good form with the bat, slamming 104 to set up his team’s 43-run win over the national Under-17 squad in a practice match at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, on Wednesday.
Solozano, who will lead the T&T Under-19s at the regional championships set to take place in Guyana from July 20 to August 10, faced 109 balls during his knock before retiring to give another batsman a chance in the middle.
The left-hander’s ton led the Under-19s to 250 for two off 45 overs.
Also getting some runs was Under-19 vice-captain Amir Jangoo, who scored 71 in an opening partnership of 193 with Solozano, who hit a double century and 150 in the BG T&T Under-19 tournament.
Off-spinner Roopnarine then grabbed four top-order wickets, including top-scorer Keagan Simmons for 63, as the Under-17s were restricted to 207 for seven off 41 overs.
Left-arm spinner Tevon Jadoo grabbed two for 34, while Justin Joseph took one for 50 off seven overs.
The Under-19 selectors trimmed the squad from 16 to 14 following the match, with Darion Ramdhanie and Jordan Samkaran missing the cut.
Among the players who made the final 14-man squad were leg-spinner Jesse Bootan and middle order batsman Camillo Carimbocas, who were both part of the Under-19 team last year, and fast-bowlers Akeel Seetal, Anderson Phillip and Shane Smith, who are all new to the national team.
