First-time entrants Richmond Park are oozing with confidence and will look to create history.
"The guys are pumped up. The community is fully behind us and already three bus loads of supporters will be making the trip to St Elizabeth for the final," Ralston Nelson, manager and captain of Richmond Park, told The Gleaner yesterday.
"'We are very confident, 100 per cent positive. We are going there to win," Nelson confidently added.
Richmond Park boast a formidable team that includes Nelson, Jermaine Allison, John Ross Campbell and Brian Malcolm. Nelson also disclosed that national Under-19 player Shawn Lodge, who was a member of Jamaica's Regional Under-19 championship team, will be included in the line-up.
Meanwhile, Junction/Bull Savannah will be boosted by their expected strong crowd support as they will be playing in their home parish. They will rely on Brian Gayle and Troy Powell, among others, to win what is expected to be a good contest.
The winners of the championship game will walk away with $1 million, while the runners-up will collect $500,000. Before the grand final, there will be a third-place play-off game between beaten semi-finalists Jacks River of St Mary and Petersville of Westmoreland. The third-place match is expected to start at 10 a.m.
The third-place winners will pocket $250,000 and the fourth-place finishers, $125,000.
The competition, which started in 2007 with the aim of fostering increased community involvement and promoting the protection of children, attracted some 338 teams islandwide at the start of this year's championship in April.
