Shiv, Hughes' Surrey match rained out
Derbyshire County Cricket Club article.
DERBYSHIRE, ENGLAND - Only nine overs were possible as persistent rain forced an early abandonment to Derbyshire’s Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture with Surrey at the County Ground.
Surrey reached 100-1 in the reduced overs tie, with Peter Burgoyne claiming the only wicket, before the rain returned as no result was possible.
After a lengthy rain delay, play finally got underway at 7.45pm in a 19 over a side contest, after Derbyshire had won the toss and elected to bowl first under the floodlights at the County Ground.
The visitors got off to a blistering start in the reduced overs match, as Roy (42*) and Davies (50) moved the scores onto 32 without loss.
The runs continued to flow for the visitors, with the pair hitting some powerful shots through both the on and off-side, which included two boundaries apiece off one Footitt over, as Surrey moved onto 92-0 after 7 overs.
But the introduction of Burgoyne brought an end to the excellent partnership as Davies, who completed his half century from the previous delivery, lofted his drive to Madsen as deep mid-off who took a superb catch to reduce Surrey to 97-1.
But the rain returned shortly after which forced an early closure to proceedings as both teams had to settle for a point in their Yorkshire Bank 40 encounter.
