Shiv could open the batting for Guyana

Port of Spain, Trinidad - West Indies middle-order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is likely to open the batting for Guyana when they face ICC Associate champions Ireland in a NAGICO Super50 Zone A match, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain from 1.30 this afternoon.
Guyana captain Chris Barnwell says he is looking to his senior and experienced players like Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Narsingh Deonarine to help him guide his squad.
“It is always good to have those guys around because they bring a lot of wealth and knowledge to the team,” Barnwell said, adding that Chanderpaul will be the anchor for Guyana.
“I think it is a game of cricket and cricket is not played on paper. We still have to go out on the field and perform. Having a good team doesn’t mean we are going to win the tournament. We still have to go out there and work hard to win the tournament. The guys know that and that’s our inspiration.”
William Porterfield, the Ireland opener and captain, said they will be leaning heavily on their Trinidad and Tobago-born coach Phil Simmons.
“Being a local guy himself, he is going to plant his knowledge and be a guide to the pitches and everything. He is going to bring a wealth of knowledge...he has been fantastic for us over the last six to seven years and will be for a few more.”
