Sammy, Russell lift WI to 260-5

Ahmedabad, India — West Indies captain Darren Sammy and allrounder Andre Russell put together a 79-run unbroken stand Monday that propelled the score against India to 260-5 in the third One-Day International.

Sammy clobbered 41 off 17 balls with five fours and two massive back-to-back sixes off Abhimanyu Mithun at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium. Russell smashed 40 off 18 with four fours and two sixes as the Windies scored a whopping 79 from just 34 balls in the final overs.

India, which is looking to take a winning 3-0 lead in the five-game series after winning the opening two games, failed to stop the pair after seemingly taking control of the West Indies innings.

Earlier, Marlon Samuels laid the base for the onslaught with a solid knock of 58 off 93 balls with five boundaries and a six. Denesh Ramdin (38) and Kieron Pollard (29) also batted well in the middle overs.

For India, seam bowler Vinay Kumar took 2-39 but Umesh Yadav and Abhimanyu Mithun were expensive late in the game.
