Sagicor WIHPC nears first innings lead

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Solid batting from the top order, led by opener Adrian Barath, put the Sagicor West Indies High Performance within sight of a first innings lead over Jamaica’s Under-23s in their four-day match on Tuesday here.

Barath made 43, left-hander Raymond Reifer supported with 37 not out and Tyrone Theophile gathered 22, as the Sagicor WIHPC reached 120 for two, replying to Jamaica Under-23s first innings total of 152 on the opening day at Sabina Park.

Barath anchored two half-century stands to give the Sagicor WIHPC a firm base. He added 64 for the first wicket with Theophile and put on 56 for the second wicket with Reifer.

Earlier, part-time off-spinner Dalton Polius and medium-fast bowler Kyle Mayers collected two scalps apiece, as the Jamaica Under-23s were bowled out between lunch and tea.

Brian Gayle led the way for the home team with 38, Paul Palmer got 24 and several others got starts without carrying on.

Members of the Sagicor WIHPC are having this chance to provide evidence of what they have learnt over the last few months during this match, which is the highlight of a one-week tour of the island and forms part of the overall development of the players.
