Georgetown, Guyana - A carefully constructed 42 from skipper Vishwanauth Ramlakhan guided Enmore Cricket Club to a sixth wicket win over host Everest in a 40 overs U-19 game played yesterday.
Set 134 for victory, Enmore replied with 136-4 in 28.2 overs. Ramlakhan stroked six fours and shared in a 53-run third wicket stand with Rudolph Singh after Enmore were reduced to 17-2.
Singh slammed six fours in scoring 31 before he was dismissed with his team12 runs short of victory; Ramdeo Basdeo (08*) and Gavin Moriah (03*) saw their team home. Rabindra Rooplall, Aleem Rasheed and Gavin Sookdeo took one wicket each.
Earlier, Everest batted first and scored 133 before they were bowled out in 39.3 overs. Darshan Persaud and Shivendra Hemraj added 25 for the opening stand before Hemraj (09) spooned a catch to mid off.
Aleem Rasheed then joined Persaud and featured in a 47-run partnership to steady the innings somewhat.
Suresh Jainarine got the breakthrough when he sent back Rasheed for 27, which included three fours.
However Persaud continued to play his shots and added a 21- run stand with Nickel Menton (09), but when Persaud who top scored with 33 inclusive of four fours, was stumped off Basdeo attempting an agricultural shot with the score on 93, the rest of the batting faltered with only Rabindra Rooplall offering some resistance with 14.
Jainarine ended with 4-18, while Ramdeo Basdeo who performed creditably in the just concluded Demerara Cricket Board Inter Association U-15 tournament, claimed 3-17.
Ramlakhan was given the man of the match award, while Enmore received a trophy. The game was played a part of the Everest Cricket Club 100th year anniversary celebrations.
