Port of Spain, Trinidad - The Central Zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) elected a new chairman at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday night.
Former vice chairman Mozack Rahamut has moved up to the chairmanship position taking over from former chairman Rajindra Poorai.
Rahamut was elected unopposed as part of the four-person Central Zone executive.
Rahamut will have the experience of a former chairman, Narsingh Rambarran as the zone’s new vice chairman.
Rambarran served as chairman of the zone for one year and also held the post of secretary for two years.
Keith Joseph returns as treasurer for another term while Hadeed Ali will serve as secretary. All members of the Central Zone executive were elected unopposed.
The zone’s three representatives that will vote at the TTCB elections during the AGM on October 26 are Joseph, Rambarran and Farouk Hosein. In terms of who they will be supporting in the upcoming TTCB elections, Joseph said the zonal executives will decide that at their next meeting.
Former West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) president Dinanath Ramnarine is expected to challenge for the TTCB presidency. He will go up against the incumbent “Movement for Change” administration, led by current TTCB president Azim Bassarath.
In 2009, Bassarath defeated former West Indies wicketkeeper Deryck Murray for the TTCB presidency, and has been at the helm for two two-year terms. Bassarath was reelected unopposed in the 2011 TTCB elections.
Murray, who was part of the “Friends of Cricket” group, was in charge for two terms before he lost to Bassarath.
