Rafman Ali softball tourney…Lyght, Rafeek slam centuries

Georgetown, Guyana - Centuries by Lynden Lyght and Mohamed Rafeek highlighted the latest round of matches of the Rafman Ali softball tournament which were contested Sunday last at Everest Cricket Club.

Playing in the over-40 category Andrew Art went down to Regal by 53 runs despite Lyght’s 101, he was supported by Sahadeo Boodhoo 52 as Andrew Art managed 195-4 in 20 overs in reply to Regal 248-2.

Earlier Eric Thomas slammed 75, Longsford Klass scored 70 and Eon Abel hit 63 for Regal. Rafeek smashed 114 not out to guide Sundeen Masters to an eight-wicket victory over Industry Superkings in their encounter. Industry Superkings took first strike and managed 180-6 in 20 overs.

Kesto Singh scored 62 and Robert Mohan 45. Kishore Mohabir and Hafeez Samad grabbed two wickets each. Sundeen responded with 184-2 in 15 overs. Rafeek cracked four fours and ten sixes and got support from Dennis Mangru 25; Robert Mohan claimed 2-25.

Parika Defenders got the better of Enterprise by 67 runs. Parika Defenders batted first and posted 163 before restricting Enterprise to 96.

In the open division, Country Side overcame Tradesman by eight wickets. Tradesman were sent packing for 81 in 10 overs. Country Side replied with 83-2 in 12.5 overs; Mahendra Ramlakhan made 29.

KK Warriors thumped Trophy Stall by 18 runs. KK Warriors reached 156-8 off their allocation of 15 overs. Reaz Mohamed led with 38. Trophy Stall responded with 138-3 in 15 overs; Suruj Boodhoo slammed 54.

Wolf’s Warriors thumped Star Boys by eight wickets. Star Boys took first knock and were bowled out for 95 in 14 overs, Abdool Wahab made 26. Wolf’s Warriors reached their target off 9.2 overs ending on 97-2. Vishnu Tammichandra led the chase with 40 while Reaz Karim stroked 30.

The competition continues on Sunday at the same venue with quarter final action. Sundeen Masters will face Uitvlugt Masters on pitch three at 09:30hrs, Park Rangers battle Fazal Khayume XI on pitch three at 13:30hrs.

Regal and Industry Superkings will clash on pitch one at 13:30hrs and Andrew Art will match skills with Parika Defenders on pitch two at 13:30hrs in the over-40 segment.

In the open category, Wolf’s Warriors play KK Warriors on pitch one at 09:30hrs, Speed Boat challenge Builders Lumber Yard at 09:30hrs on pitch two, Regal engage Farm at 11:30hrs on pitch two and Trophy Stall will come up against Country Side at 11:30hrs on pitch one.

The tournament is being sponsored by Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Trophy Stall Bourda Market, Andrew Art, H Singh Trucking Service, Memorex and Guyana Rice Development Board.
