Queen’s Park destroy Bamboo at Oval

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Queen's Park embarrassed Seenath’s Auto Bamboo Sports by an innings and 17 runs, in one day, at the Queen’s Park Oval, St Clair yesterday.

Action was in the first day of the Final Round of the Shanghai Construction Group-sponsored Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) National League Premier Division. 

National all-rounder Akeal Hosein and discarded Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards were the outstanding players for the home team. Hosein made an unbeaten 137 and took eight wickets with his left-arm spin while Edwards walked away with a match haul of 10 wickets. 

Sent in to bat, Bamboo were bundled out for 117 in 29.2 overs with Hosein taking four wickets for 26 runs while Edwards had 4/37 and ex- national and West Indies off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth 2/33. Roger Birbal made 28, while Nashwan Lutchman added 23 and Ryan Ramasray 16 for Bamboo. 

In response, Queen’s Park amassed 250/3 declared in 43 overs with the left-handed Hosein getting his runs off 109 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes. TT Under-19 captain Jeremy Solozano contributed 66 (seven fours off 99 balls) while another left-hander Marlon Barclay was not out on 25. Hosein and Solozano featured in a second-wicket stand of 160 in 30.1 overs. 

Facing a deficit of 133, Bamboo were bowled out for 116 in 18.1 overs with Edwards taking 6/34 and Hosein 4/36. V Seenath (28), Ramasray (27) and Jesse James (20) offered brief resistance with the bat for the visitors. 

Queen’s Park, finished second on the points standings with 220, after gaining 25 points yesterday, while cellar-placed Bamboo Sports added a solitary point to their pre-game tally of 80 to be relegated.
