Polius plunders unbeaten 64 as St. George beat St. James in UWI T20 tournament

Bridgetown, Barbados - Windward Islands first-class player Dalton Polius smashed a hurricane, unbeaten half-century to propel St. George Pioneers to a six-wicket win over St. James Settlers in the second match of the 2013 UWI CO Williams Inter-Parish Invitational Twenty 20 tournament at 3Ws Oval on Monday night.
Polius, a 23-year-old St. Lucian and a member of the Barbados-based Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre (HPC), lashed 64 not out off 35 balls with six sixes and two fours at No. 3, as St. George, chasing 155 to win, got home with 2.1 overs to spare.
Left-hander Polius, having his first taste of the competition, featured in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 50 with Randy Thomas, a former Barbados player and now the LIME captain, who made 20 not out.
Polius reached his half-century off 30 balls with four sixes and two fours.
Thomas' LIME team-mate Kevon Beckles gave the innings a brisk start with 34 off 23 balls including three sixes and one four. He added 45 for the first wicket with Windward Islands player, St. Lucian Keddy Lesporis (14), who is an HPC Alumnus.
Left-arm spinners Ravendra Persaud, the BDFSP captain and Chad Clarke-Reifer, who represents CounterPoint Wanderers - both in the Barbados Cricket Association's major competitions - each took two for 17 and 22 respectively.
After winning the toss, St. James scored 154 for seven off 20 overs. Shamarh Brooks, a former West Indies Under-19 and HPC captain with first-class experience, topscored with 35 off 31 balls at No. 3.
Former Barbados player Carlo Morris contributed 28 off 16 balls with three sixes.
Rachad Forde picked up three for 33.
