Playing for Windies helped Hyatt
North Sound, Antigua – Jamaican batsman Danza Hyatt said that playing for the West Indies senior team has improved his confidence and has helped him to progress as a batsman.
“Being around the experienced guys and playing international cricket has helped me for sure,” said Hyatt who has appeared in five One Day Internationals and four Twenty20 Internationals.
He said his time on the international stage has allowed him to pick up good form.
“I think I’m in good nick so I have to capitalize and I need to continue to get the big scores,” Hyatt reasoned.
Speaking about his impressive 92 for the West Indies A against Bangladesh A at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds on Saturday the 28 year old Jamaican said that he was doing what was expected of him as a batsman.
“When your team is in trouble you have to dig deep, rotate the strike and consolidate, that’s what your job as a batsman really is,” Hyatt said at the end of the day’s play.
The right hander was cruelly run out eight short of what would have been a deserved century in a mix up with eventual centurion Andre Russell. The robust right handed batsman said he bore no ill feelings towards his fellow Jamaican as it is all part of the game.
“It was a mix up with Russell that cost me my wicket but it is a part of the game and I have to put that behind me and get a good score in the second innings and in the next match,” said Hyatt.
Hyatt played the lead role in pulling the West Indian A innings after they found themselves in an early hole at 11 for 2 with both openers – Kyle Corbin (0) and Rajendra Chandrika (9) – back in the pavilion.
He added 115 runs with Nkrumah Bonner (43) then 58 with Russell (128) to revive the Windies A innings.
“We had a bad start and me and Bonner had to get a partnership for the team then me and Russell had to put together another partnership later on until I got run out,” Hyatt said.
West Indies ended the day on 352 for 8 from 89.2 overs. Barbadian all rounder Carlos Brathwaite supported Russell and Hyatt with 62 from 93 balls, inclusive of half a dozen boundaries and one six.
