Phillips, Jones, Archer star as Barbados reach semis of T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados - Barbados have advanced to the semi-finals of the Barbados Twenty20 Cup which features four English County Clubs, as well as the University of West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus.

On the opening day, Saturday, March 15 at Kensington Oval, Nottinghamshire beat Warwickshire by seven wickets in the first match, Northamptonshire defeated UWI by eight wickets and Barbados overcame Hampshire by 14 runs.

Omar Phillips, the former West Indies Test opener, led the way with 42 off the same number of balls including three fours and two sixes in a total of 138 for seven off 20 overs after Barbados won the toss.

Skipper Renaldo Parris made 31 not out off 28 balls, hitting one four and one six at No. 4. It followed a first wicket partnership of 44 in 4.5 overs between left-handers Phillips and Justin Brathwaite (18 from 11 balls with three fours).

Matt Coles took three for 23 and Sean Ervine, two for 25.

Hampshire were bowled out for 124 in 19.3 overs.

Opener James Vince topscored with 46 off 28 balls including seven fours and one six.

Barbados Under-19 team players, leg-spinning all-rounder Aaron Jones, with four for 20 off four overs and fast bowling all-rounder Jofra Archer, who took three for 36 off 3.3 overs, spurred the challenge with the ball.

Both Jones and Archer were also members of the Foundation School teams which won the 2012 and 2013 BCA Schools' Under-19 limited overs title, as well as the 2013 BCA Intermediate division Cup.

The match-ups on Sunday, March 16 are as follows:

Plate final - Warwickshire (5) v UWI (6) at Desmond Haynes Oval, Black Rock - 12 Noon

Semi-final 1 - Nottinghamshire (2) v Barbados (3) at Kensington Oval - 12 Noon

Semi-final 2 - Northamptonshire (1) v Hampshire (4) at Kensington Oval - 3:30 pm

The Grand final at Kensington Oval brings together the winners of semi-finals 1 & 2 and begins at 7 pm.
