Parkites move up in Premier Division

Trinidad Express article.

Defending Premier Division league champions, Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) moved up one spot into fourth place on the standings, after winning first innings points against First Citizens Clarke Road United in their drawn ninth round match, at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, yesterday.

It was one of only two matches not completely washed out by rain.

The Parkites batted first and scored 201 for six declared, with Tion Webster hitting an unbeaten 33 to get the score past 200 and earn his team two bonus batting points.

Despite half-centuries from Adrian Ali (59) and Ryan Ramdass (50), Clarke Road fell short of a first innings lead by four runs, reaching 198 all out.

West Indies pacer Shannon Gabriel and spinner Amit Jaggernauth led the Parkites bowling with three wickets each, while teenager Webster, who is also a medium-pace bowler, chipped in with two for 60.

Although not an outright win, the first innings victory was enough to keep alive the Parkites’ title ambitions, with two rounds of matches left to be played.

At Gilbert Park, California, the Caldrac/Hafeez Karamath Limited Aranjuez Sports showdown ended in a draw. Caldrac clinched first innings points, after spinner Dane Teelucksingh took six for 60 and Aranjuez were dismissed for 136.

In reply, Caldrac were 150 for five at stumps.

All the other matches were abandoned after heavy rain over the weekend left grounds waterlogged.
