Kingston, Jamaica - Despite not being able to attract any sponsors for this year's staging of the Senior Cup, head of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), Billy Heaven, is anticipating a smooth running of the competition.

"We were not able to attract any sponsors for the staging of Senior Cup, largely due to the time that has been available to us since we have been in office," said Heaven.

"A competition like the Senior Cup is one that requires a lot of packaging to attract sponsors, and it is something that we are working on primarily for next year.

"However, given the importance of the competition, we have been able to identify internal funding, which should allow for smooth resumption."

The competition was not played last year primarily due to inadequate funding.

Youth Representatives

The marquee game of the opening round, in the meantime, will see defending champions Melbourne with Carlton Baugh Jr and Nikita Miller hosting Lucas at Melbourne Road.

The Preston Road-based Lucas are expected to have in their line-up former Jamaica youth representatives, batsman Ramon Senior, and left-arm spinner Ransford Merchant.

Elsewhere, St Catherine CC, with sidelined West Indies batsman Danza Hyatt, Odean Brown and Tamar Lambert are set to face-off with parish rivals St Catherine CA at Chedwin Park.

St Catherine CA for who West Indies batsman Nkrumah Bonner plays is expected to have in their team former national youth player, spinner Coi Thompson.

Another encounter of interest, should be the match-up between dethroned champions Manchester and GC Foster College at Manchester High.

Manchester has on their roster West Indies pacer Krishmar Santokie, and national players, Zeniffe Fowler and Jamie Merchant.

GC Foster, in the meanwhile, are set to depend on discarded West Indies 'A' spinner Gavin Wallace former national Under-19 captain, all-rounder Derval Green.
