Nicholas slams 62 as Emrit XI fight back

Trinidad Guardian article.

Port of Spain, Trinidad - A tight battle is on for first innings honours at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, as Petrock Nicholas led a strong response by Team B yesterday on the second day of the three-day national trial match against Team A.

In reply to Team A’s first innings total of 296, Team B closed the day on 286/8 with Yannic Cariah (23 not out) and Rayad Emrit (8 not out) at the wicket.

Nicholas was the top scorer for Team B, cracking an agresssive 62 off 74 balls, which included nine fours. Nicholas was ably supported by his Queen’s Park teammate Jonathan Augustus (48), who fell two runs shy of a half-century.

The left-handed trio of Kjorn Ottley, Justin Guillen and Akeal Hosein all contributed 33 to the total. Spin bowler Derone Davis was the pick of the bowlers for Team A, grabbing 4/55.

With an outright win unlikely for both teams in today’s final day, Team A will be looking for more batting practice in preparation for the regional four-day tournament, which bowls off tomorrow.

After a first round bye, T&T will open against the Windward Islands at the Queen’s Park Oval on March 7.
