Nicholas puts Drifters into 12-over cricket final
Trinidad Guardian article.
Port of Spain, Trinidad - Barry Nicholas blasted Drifters into the finals of the Tyro Sports Club 45 and over Windball 12-over Cricket League with an unbeaten even 50 to lead his team to a comfortable six-wicket win over Club House on July 21 at the Bourg Mulatresse Recreational Ground, Lower Santa Cruz.
Bowling first, the Drifters’ bowlers did not have much luck, as Club House posted a competitive 104/5 behind Vince Marshall’s top-score of 30.
Marshall was ably supported by Keith Ramsray and Sheldon Thomas, who contributed 23 and 19 respectively. Sheldon Belcon tried his best to limit the Drifters’ batsmen, taking 2/16.
In reply, Nicholas’ knock guided Drifters to the unlikely win and a spot in the final. Andy Ruiz gave some assistance to Nicholas, scoring 17. In the other semifinal, some economical bowling from Xmen gave them an easy eight-wicket win over Big Men.
Big Men could only muster 60/8 off their 12 overs as Vincent Valentine grabbed 2/5 in three overs. Carl Solomon (2/6) and Alex Fredrick (2/8) also snatched two wickets apiece. Junior Griffith top-scored with 13 for Big Men.
In their run chase, Xmen had little trouble thanks to Dean Charles and Clint Williams. Charles struck 21, while Williams made an unbeaten 17 to lead Xmen to 61/2. Xmen will face Drifters in the final on Saturday at 4.30 pm.
