NGC gets opening win in SIS Super T10 cricket
PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - The National Gas Company started their campaign on a positive note in the SIS Industrial Cricket League on Tuesday with a solid win over Air Liquide (Trinidad) Ltd.
Air Liquide, who won their first game against Powergen Point Lisas, were very confident coming into this game but did not prepare for the excellent all-round performance from NGC.
Batting first, NGC amassed a very good 92 from their allotted ten overs with contributions from S Siloch (18) and captain A Chandler (28).
Both batsmen batted well after the first wicket fell with the score on 18. Their partnership contributed 46 runs with some big boundaries and excellent running between the wickets.
R Ramsaran provided some resistance for Air Liquide late in the innings, picking up three wickets in his lone over and was well supported by J Spring who picked up two.
Air Liquide did not seem daunted early on as they connected with the bat and ran well to keep the score ticking.
Midway through their innings they had reduced the deficit by more than half with only three wickets down. NGC dropped some simple catches in the field that could have seen the game end a lot sooner.
To get to their target though, Air Liquide needed boundaries and found them very difficult to come by. R Ramsaran and Dave Mahabir batted well at the top, contributing 25.
R Doon also played well for his inning-high 18 runs but after the third wicket fell on 46, the batting capitulated.
Four wickets fell with the addition of just three runs as Siloch and D Baxter picked up five wickets between them late in the innings to stifle the run chase.
Air Liquide eventually closed on 61, well short of their target.
Over at Plipdeco Ground, opening tournament winners, Plipdeco, found the going tough against a very dangerous Industrial Plant Services Limited and their AUM Division.
IPSL AUM batted first and scored 66 runs in their ten overs.
After a shaky start, S Goolcharan and S Seepersad (18 and 15) steadied the innings and ensured that their bowlers had a defendable total.
The only resistance in the Plipdeco innings came from A Azziz (12) at the top and Q Griffith (8 no) later on while the rest of the lineup had no response to IPSL AUM’s bowling attack.
It took 19 runs before the first wicket fell...then came the landslide. Narindra Bridgelal (2/8) and Brian Wong (1/1) bowled a tight line that only saw nine runs conceded in their four overs.
Plipdeco lasted their ten overs but only managed 42 runs.
