NEC funding women’s cricket in T&T
Women’s cricket will be among the beneficiaries of $125,000 pumped into the development of cricket for the 2013 season by the National Energy Corporation (NEC).
The NEC handed over the cheque to the T&T Cricket Board, yesterday, at a simple ceremony. The funds are expected to benefit 16 clubs in the area. It will also be used for a 40-over tournament and a youth tournament.
NEC chairman Chan Chadeesingh said the NEC plans to partner with the TTCB for the development of the South West Zone since it was the south western peninsula that was the birthplace of the oil industry in T&T with the first well being drilled in Guapo in 1908.
Chadeesingh said the 16 clubs represent the 16 zones and 16 communities that he expects would benefit from clean enjoyment. TTCB president Azim Bassarath said the zone re-emerged in 2007 after a lull when it was absorbed into the South Zone.
