MYO\RAF’s 10\10 Inter-Jamaat Softball…Gittens slams half century as MYO beat Success by 8 wickets

Georgetown, Guyana - A fine half century by Chien Gittens steered Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) to an eight wicket victory over Success when action in the MYO-Raf’s Variety Store Inter- Jamaat 10\10 nationwide knockout softball cricket competition continued last Sunday.

At MYO, Success batted first and made 141 for 5 in their allotted 10 overs. Asif Singh scored 66 not out and Zahir Persaud made 51. Richard Latiff picked up 3-32. MYO responded with 143 for 2 in 8.4 overs. Gittens led the batting with 60 not out while Safraz Esau 44.

Farm A defeated Farm B by 10 wickets in another fixture.

Farm A managed 116 for 6 in their allotted 10 overs, batting first with Avinash Sookdeo top scoring with 31 while Lennox Marks supported with 30. Budhan Baksh took 2 for 30. Avinash Mohabir then blasted an unbeaten 93 and got support from Ricky Sargeant who scored 17 not out as the defending Champs Farm B knocked off the required total in 8.2 overs, ending on 117-0.

New Mosque overcame Queenstown by 31 runs. New Mosque rattled up 100-5 in 10 overs after taking first strike. Samir Baig 23 and Neil Samaroo 21 were their leading batsmen.

Riyaad Najab captured 3-26 for Queenstown who were bowled out for 69 in 9.1 overs in reply. Javid Kayume and Omar Kadir scored 19 each; Samir Baig snared 4-15 runs.

MYO got the better of New Mosque by 10 wickets.

New Mosque batted first and made 92 for 6 off their allotted 10 overs. Neil Samaroo made 26 and Imran Ayube made 25. Timur Mohamed was the pick of the bowlers with 3-10 runs. MYO replied with 94-0 in 6.2 overs. Gittens continued his fine form with an unbeaten 58 while Richard Latiff made 27 not out.

At Affiance, Essequibo Coast, Fair Field beat Adventure by 6 wickets.

Adventure took first strike and scored 140 for 3 in 10 overs. Fazeer Khan made 74 while Zakie Salim contributed 23. Bowling for Fairfield Fhazaad Khan took 2-18. Fairfield replied with 141-4 in 8.3 overs. Abdul Sabr top scored with 49 and Zameer Mohamed cracked 48. Nazir Khan and Ihwaas Baksh picked up 1 wicket apiece for 15 and 20 runs respectively.

The competition concludes today at MYO with Wakenaam facing Adventure at 08:00hrs before MYO take on Fyrish Small Masjid in the first semifinal at 09:30 hrs. Farm B will then clash with the winner of the Wakenaam and Adventure game in the second semifinal at 11:00hrs which will be followed by the third place play off and final.
