Kingston, Jamaica - MICO University College brushed aside G.C. Foster College by 58 runs to capture the UTech Twenty20 Classic at the University of Technology (UTech) on Sunday.
Mico were winning the competition for the first time, this after their fourth trip in a row to the final. Scores: Mico 132 for eight off 20 overs, GC Foster College 74 all out off 15.5 overs.
Mico, which batted first, were in early trouble at 45 for four off 10 overs, including the loss of Nkrumah Bonner for zero.
However, good lower-inning batting from Gerald Whyte (27) and Oshean Wilson, 21, propelled their score to 132. Stephen Casey took three for 18 and Andre Gordon two for 17.
Led by good bowling from spinner Coi Thompson (3-27) and medium pacer Antwain Stephens (2-14), GC Foster College found run-making difficult. They were in early trouble at 20 for three; they crumbled to 47 for eight and never recovered. Only Gavin Wallace, with 22, made a useful contribution.
Mico's Stephens was named MVP for the Finals. He was also the competition's top scorer with 150 runs, which earned him the award for being the tournament's top player. Mico captain, Frederick Hermit, was the competition's top bowler.
