Lugg leads WI U-19s to victory

PROVIDENCE, Guyana – A half-century from Leroy Lugg anchored West Indies Under-19s to a convincing, six-wicket victory over Bangladesh Under-19s in their Youth One-day International series on Monday here.

Lugg hit the top score of 69, as the Windies Under-19s successfully chased 136 for victory in the first Youth ODI at the Guyana National Stadium.

He shared 80 for the second wicket with Jeremy Solozano that put the home team firmly on track for victory.

Solozano made 27 and Tristan Coleman got 20 not out, as he formalised the win with 92 deliveries remaining.

The result gave the Caribbean side a 1-0 lead in the seven-match which continues on Wednesday at Bourda Oval in the heart of the Guyana capital.

Alzarri Joseph had grabbed 3-30 from nine overs and Marquino Mindley took 2-15 from eight overs, as the Bangladeshis were dismissed for 135 in 46 overs.

West Indies Under-19s bowled steadily throughout the visitors’ innings, as Bangladesh Under-19 captain Mehedy Hasan made 29 and wicketkeeper/batsman Jashimuddin added 21, being the only players to pass 20.
