Lower Corentyne through to final

Georgetown, Guyana - Half-centuries from Berbice under-17 batsmen Brian Dukhna and Brandon Persaud spearheaded Lower Corentyne into the final of the 2013 Berbice Cricket Board/Republic Bank Under-17 Inter-Zone cricket competition.

Lower Corentyne advanced after gaining first innings points from West Berbice in their drawn semi-final encounter at the Cumberland ground in East Canje. Batting first, Lower Corentyne reached 168 for 6 from 53 overs. Dukhna topscored with 53 while Persaud made 52; Daniel Samaroo chipped in with an unbeaten 29.

Bowling for West Berbice, medium pacer Imran Imtiaz was the best bowler with 2 for 19.

In their run chase, West Berbice slipped to 63 for 5, a position from which they never recovered, and were eventually bowled out for 72.

Off spinner Daniel Lewis and left-arm spinner Dukhna ripped through the batting order with three wickets apiece. Medium pacer Navendra Permaul supported with 2 for 18.

Lower Corentyne reached 37 without loss in their second innings when the day’s play ended.
