Lights to be installed at Albion Complex

Albion Sports Complex, the venue for the first one day international match in the Caribbean will soon be installed with lights.

The contract, which has been awarded to Musco Lighting, was signed yesterday at the Ministe r of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony office in Main Street.

Bryan McNulty, Assist ant Director of International Sales of Musco Lighting said that they are hap py to work with the Ministry of Sport on the project.

He stated an illumi nation study was done on the ground for night cricket like the other grounds in the Caribbean. Project manager Brad Chelesvig, indicated that they will e nsure the product is installed correctly. He said they were involved in Spor ts Science business since 1976 and does two thousand projects annually. Chel esvig said they also did a number of venues at the London Olympics. He state d that the lights will be tested.

“A meter will be used to test t he lights when it is finished; six galvanized steel poles will be installed which will be of 33 meters in height.

The lights will be powered by a gene rator or local power source and there will also be a lot of savings in relat ion to the amount of Diesel that will be consumed since energy saver lights will be used,” he added. He also said that they will give a 10 year warranty.

Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony said this project was on the cards for a long time and it will enhance not only cricket but other nightl y activities in the county.

Anthony stated they are pleased to have Musco Lighting on board. “They have also installed lights at the National Park, Gymnasium and the National Sports Hall and so far we have gotten good service.

This project will change the dynamics of cricket in Berbice sin ce more people are playing Twenty\20.

Albion also hosts the Berbice Expo a nd we want to upgrade the ground and make it a premier venue for sports in G uyana.

We also had discussions with the club and the RDC in terms of its m aintenance,” stated Anthony.

He indicated the products will take a bout 6 to 10 weeks to arrive after it is manufactured and we are hoping that the project will be completed within a minimum of 6 months.

The project will cost approximately US$235,000.
